Since the delivery...

We were released from the hospital the Tuesday following the delivery. Both girls! We had to take a CPR class and have Abigail on a monitor but aside from that, they said the girls were doing wonderful at suckling and eating, especially for being only 35 weeks.

We also had to get car beds because the girls were both under five pounds (Hannah is now almost too long for it). They are actually really neat, the girls just lay down in them instead of sit up.

We went to the doctor on Wednesday, to check Jaundice. And had to go back on Thursday. All was well and we didn’t have to go back to the hospital.

Monday marked our first "real" check-up. The girls had gained back to their birth weight! Remarkable for preemies. Usually it takes three to four weeks. The doctor was thrilled. Hannah had also grown an inch (from 16 to 17 inches) and Abigail as well (from 15.5 to 16). We went back again on Friday for their two week appointment and found that Hannah had grown to five pounds three ounces (which I predicted exactly :) and Abigail was three pounds 14 ounces (I was one ounce off). Hurray! I didn't realize how much they had grown until I put pictures onto Wal-Mart’s site and saw how skinny Abigail looked.

We are all doing well. Dad is run down. But I'm making him rest and take Zycam, vitamin C and drink OJ, as well as eat. But aside from that, we're loving this. Aside from the no sleep thing. We're not nocturnal yet. But we love our girls so much! And we both are loving being parents!

Saturday, October 21

Our little girls are 15 days old today! Hannah Elizabeth and Abigail Marie. And doing great! Here's the story, I'll start 15 days ago, plus two and a half hours:

Mom and dad went down to see Rachael in Edwardsville at my bidding. Bre and Christy were up at the children's hospital following Bre's surgery (she's home now btw) and Paula was up there as well. Bill asked if we wanted to go to dinner and Andy and I do not turn down food. So we went to TGI Friday's. I thought it would be funny to call mom and tell her I was having the babies. This was at about... 5:00. But, told her I was kidding.

We went to dinner and rented some movies. We had just started watching a crappy movie, Andy got up to go to the bathroom and I felt like I was going to the bathroom... but I new I wasn't. I rolled off of the couch so as to not ruin it and told Andy we needed to go to the hospital, that my water had broken. He asked if I was sure and then saw my pants... I called mom back and told her I was for real this time and I was having the babies. She and Rachael had a real hard time with not being here but it was a cesarean so they wouldn't have been able to do anything but wait anyway.

So, we got some things (and a towel for the seat), Bill got the ice cream he had gotten for dessert and Andy and I headed to the hospital. We got to our birthing room and in a whirlwind, were asked a million questions. They mentioned catheter, I panicked and asked if I could call Bre (since she has been in the hospital so many times) but they looked at me like I was on crack. I then asked to wait closer to the procedure and they said, "You're going to have these babies by 9:00." Holy crap! It was 8:30.

Andy called Gram and Papa. They came over. Bill walked in the room with them. Then, two minutes later I was on the way to the OR. Thank God that Dr. Nona was there in time. She promised she would be and held and talked me through the spinal, which really wasn't so bad.

I asked about a million times when Andy was going to be able to come in and when they were going to check to see if I was numb. The had checked but I felt it. Eee. They waited another 30 seconds and apparently really pinched and I didn't feel it. Andy saw. Then they started the cesarean. I was kinda ok until they pushed Hannah out. Andy said my whole body jerked and I looked like I was about to lose it, I was, but he did a wonderful job at keeping me sane.

Hannah was first at four pounds 13 ounces. Then came Abigail at three pounds 10 ounces. Little babies!

Apparently I told Andy to go with our babies and make sure they were ok. He recorded all the stuff they did to the girls in the nursery and took some pictures in the OR. I don't remember that. I don't remember a whole lot after they shoved Hannah out. I remember them showing me Hannah and Abigail but then it's foggy. Hannah was doing great and Abigail was wonderful for her size but had to be on oxygen for a bit and an apnea monitor (she's still on it).

I was then taken to a recovery room where they brought in the babies, and Andy came back. Gram and Papa came in, then mom, Rachael, dad, Bill was there too. We didn't get back to a recovery room until about 2:30 am. Whew! What a night!
